It is about his childhood in the 1840s. He was a brilliant boy whose entire education consisted of about three years in a dame school. He went to work at the age of about seven in the potteries. The book was written in his late sixties shortly before his death. It is particularly interesting because it is not written by a middle class person about working people but by a working man gifted with extraordinary literary talent, someone who probably would have been a major author if he had been middle class.

I also like The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists.Fightfordemocracynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5611409863712113861.post-50177175873409673592012-05-23T18:18:02.498-04:002012-05-23T18:18:02.498-04:00Mrs. Trollope -- and Dickens -- are as relevant to...Mrs. Trollope -- and Dickens -- are as relevant today as they were 150 years ago.Owen Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06464860078574618579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5611409863712113861.post-59824902674459569622012-05-22T19:26:22.325-04:002012-05-22T19:26:22.325-04:00In China. An apple factory employer, had the workers sign a document, swearing they would not commit suicide.

Child laborers, earn only pennies a day.

Canada was only too happy to send their factories to China, to exploit the cheap labor.

Harper made a deal with China, he would watch out for China's company's in Canada. He asked China to do the same for Canadian company's in China. Seems Canadian company's in China, are having a lot of trouble, with the corrupt Chinese.

Contractors at the tar sands, are having a lot of trouble collecting from the Chinese. Harper is permitting China to buy up the tar sands. China refuses to pay Canadian wages. Harper is allowing them to bring their own people, to work their vast tar sands projects. Harper is also permitting China, to bring thousands of their people, to build the Enbridge pipeline.

BC resources are already owned by China. Campbell thieved and sold BC's assets and resources. China is bringing their own people, to work the BC mines.

Fadden of CSIS warned, of China's huge inroads into Canada. He is exactly right.

China is also hacking into many country's secret files. They thumb their noses at anyone who opposes them.

Harper has sold Canada out, to a Communist country.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
